PROFESSIONALISATION & PRESENTATION

In the third year of your studies, you will be challenged to go further in-depth by immersing yourself into a semester-long project working around a given theme.

A driving aspect is to bring nuance and subtlety into both content and presentation of your work. You are expected to become aware of your potential audience, and the consequences this has for your work, as well as working with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Your long-term semester project will end up as your first solo-publication, produced in collaboration with students from KABK’s Graphic Design department. You are also expected to present your project using a different presentation platform; for example, using interactive design or moving image. You finish the project with a public presentation outside the academy where you will gain valuable experience in organising, constructing, publishing, financing and advertising a project, all the responsibility of you and your peers.

In the second half of the third year, you will go on an internship with one of the many acclaimed professionals from our broad international network. Over the course of one semester, you will build up a network and obtain experience in the professional field. This experience enables you to connect different elements of your study and prepare plans for your final year.

The Individual Study Track (IST) provides you the opportunity to follow courses outside our department or create projects that complement your personal interests. You can also choose to follow an exchange semester at one of our partner institutions abroad.

Short description
The internship is part of the professionalization of your skills. The internship is designed to learn more about the practice of the profession from the inside, and take part in it. You gain experience with working conditions, methods, techniques and limitations of your future field of work. The internship is a 3rd year course, starting after the Open Day and after semester 1. Preferably you focus on one internship address. The internship address matches with your professional profile and covers a period of 17 weeks. There are at least two training days at the academy that you are expected to attend as part of your internship. In semester 1 the preparation for finding a suitable internship starts. With a professional profile and learning goals you motivate your longlist and shortlist. You are looking for suitable opportunities yourself, but discuss your strategy and steps with your lecturer. Take advise from your lecturer and convince with a clear motivation for specific addresses. With an internship contract, all parties set the authorization for your internship. During the internship period, you keep a logbook. In addition, you pay attention to your IST. This you have pre-specified in your IST-plan and is approved by the department (coach). Your internship is concluded in an internship report, containing among others conclusions and evaluations of your internship provider. The collective assessment at the end of semester 2 is about your visual work created during this period, your customized portfolio, your approved internship report with detailed findings, your professional profile and your verbal presentation.
